"and so it BEGINS!"

Said Bruce Springsteen last night after beginning the 2007 tour with Radio Nowhere and right before launching in to The Ties That Bind.
And where it will end up nobody knows just yet.

What a difference a week makes. Last night's show was far superior to what I saw in Asbury Park a week ago. Rehearsals are great fun but they are rehearsals and last week was a little rough around the edges. Last night, wipe the slate clean, the boys took the stage with their A game. The first 45 minutes of the show were so intense it was unreal. It was one after the other like a rapid fire assault. Right up until my bathroom break of Town Called Heartbreak :) If there is a little lull to the show it is right there but that all turns around again with Devil's Arcade straight on through to the end of the regular set.
The show is a lean, mean, fightin' machine.
After Badlands Bruce did a quick run through of the band intro's and then he added "the earth shaking - blah blah blah - Viagra taking, LEGENDARY" and then he let the crowd finish with E STREET BAND.

Clearly Bruce and the band were mighty proud of themselves on Opening Night and with good reason. I was sitting a few rows behind Max and I was over the tunnel area as the band came and went from the stage. After Bruce left the stage for the final time he stopped in the tunnel area and was waving at the crowd and he had HUGE grin on his face. Smiling from ear to ear, if you will.

Last night Pete asked me why I like going to opening night. That's an easy one for me. It's the real deal on opening night. Rehearsals may come before it but opening night with the band is the night they say to the world, here we are and this is what we have to say this time around. We hope you come along for the ride. Whenever possible I have to see that all unfold for myself and make sure that I'm still interested in taking the ride. Last night it Struck me kinda funny seemed kind of funny sir to me
How at the end of every hard earned day people find some reason to believe.

With all my heart, I believe.

Here are some photos from last night.

Do I have to say his name?

You know and i hope i'm right but if my memory serves me correctly you seem an awful lot more upbeat about this gig than most others i've heard you talk about before and that's a mighty fine thing i can tell you ....

just one thing slightly bugs me ... why do they issue tickets behind the stage , ok i heard he has a cute ass but to me i think its annoying ??? your take on this people ?? although i have been quoted as saying that if the only seat in the house free was the ' toilet seat ' i'd take it ... lol

really glad the show started off on fire !!!

Thanks for the report. Who's the guy with Swing?

Mick- actually the backstage seats for Bruce can be a fun spot. I sat in the first row backstage at a show in Columbus, OH during the Rising tour. They hang speakers back there so the sound is quite good. The band cavorts back there quite a bit. And, when you are sitting behind Max it's like you are in the backseat of a giant machine that's rumbling down the road. A nice viewpoint- once in a while

RR that is HIK with Swing.

Yes I'm much more upbeat than the Seeger Sessions that's for sure. I tried it on for size but it just wasn't my thing!

As for the rear stage seats I love those seats. I like watching the wheels churn back there. If I had a rear vs. a lower at the complete opposite end of the stage, I'd take the rear every time. But that's just me.

On to Philly.......
RR, sounds like Rob will be joining us in the city of brotherly love.

I have to say when i watch the live in ny DVD those people back of stage seem to be really really enjoying it . i just never imagined it - however i'm more relaxed now knowing when i do get to see him state-side i wont be bothered now where i sit :-)
nie to hear yr take on this -- always puzzled me !!!

I don't mind the behind the stage either. You kind of get a band view of the action. I agree with MB I’d take the behind over the directly across any day, closer to the action. I guess I'd feel differently if the sound was awful but it's not at all.

I'm still trying to figure out why it took so long for CrazyJaney to get to the office yesterday.....that's just wrong after such a great night!

I am kinda looking forward to being behind the stage when they do "Born To Run" on Friday night. I think I'll have the digital camera ready for the first "Whoaaaa!!!!" That's if they play Born To Run. Do you think they'll play it? I'm not too sure.
