Bobby Bandiera Holiday Show Announced

The EXACT same lineup as last year:

Bon Jovi headlining charity concert in Red Bank

by Jay Lustig/The Star-Ledger
Monday November 26, 2007, 1:15 PM

'Tis the season for benefit concerts, and one of the biggest will take place at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank on Dec. 21.

Jon Bon Jovi will lead an all-star lineup that night, at "The Hope Concert III." Tickets will be $100-$500, with proceeds benefiting the Valerie Fund Center at Children's Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch.

Others on the bill include Southside Johnny, Gary U.S. Bonds, Bobby Bandiera, the Jersey Shore Rock-N-Soul Revue, Mark Pender and Richie "La Bamba" Rosenberg and Tim McLoone & the Shirleys.

The two previous "Hope" concerts, benefiting other charities, took place at the Basie in 2003 and 2006. Like "Hope III," they were organized by Bandiera, a longtime member of Southside Johnny's Asbury Jukes who is currently touring with the Bon Jovi band. Last year's show was actually called "The Bobby Bandiera All-Star Holiday Concert."

Bruce Springsteen performed at the two previous shows. While he is currently on tour in Europe, his last show there is Dec. 19, so he could join the lineup as an unannounced guest.

Tickets will go on sale 9:30 a.m. tomorrow. They will be available at the Basie box office at 99 Monmouth St., Red Bank, and by phone at (732) 842-9000. There is a four-ticket limit. Tickets will not be available through the theater's Web site.

Reign Over Me

Happy Thanksgiving....

Among the long list of things I'm thankful for are my friends so know I will be thinking of all of you tomorrow. Enjoy your day!

A few more thoughts on the Boston shows...
It's not often that I leave a show and keep thinking about it for a long time. Most nights I file it away after the show and move on. Monday's show I can't shake though. Just keep replaying all the highlights in my head. That's the sign of an excellent show!

I love the way Steve is now coming to share the mic with Bruce during GypsyBiker - "You slipped into your darkness
Now all that remains
Is my love for you brother"

I didn't notice it Sunday but Monday Bruce gave the full "water spit" before Working on the Highway. Classic.

At Sunday's show there was a guy sitting next to me who cried during The Promised Land. He was by himself and tried darn hard to hide it but there was no chance.

And here's the question that's been on my mind since the Danny rumor mill has been churning and now is official. On Sunday in Madrid does Bruce say "Madrid, you have just seen the earth shakin'..blahblahblah...legendary E Street Band?

This first US leg has been fantastic fun in every city I have been to. We now turn it over to the capable hands of our friends across the pond. Mick, Sara, you are in for a GREAT time. Enjoy every minute of it!

Charlie and I will be heading out to St. John on Friday morning. If I can get internet access I will be checking in for a report from Madrid. We will be back in circulation on Dec. 3 but until then the photos below will give you an idea of where we will be spending our time! :)

The official statement on Danny

From Backstreets:

DANNY FEDERICI TAKING LEAVE OF ABSENCE
Giordano to fill in as Danny fights melanoma
The moving Magic performance in Boston on Monday night [see review below] was clearly in Danny Federici's honor, though much went unspoken. We now have an official statement, addressing his health as well as the next leg of the Magic tour:

Danny Federici, an original member of the E Street Band, is taking a leave of absence from the current Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band tour to pursue treatment for melanoma. Charles Giordano, who played with Bruce as a member of the Sessions Band, will temporarily fill in for Danny until he is able to return. Federici has been playing keyboards with Springsteen since the late Sixties. Said Springsteen, "Danny is one of the pillars of our sound and has played beside me as a great friend for more than 40 years. We all eagerly await his healthy and speedy return."

Federici has been actively supporting the Melanoma Research Foundation and its Wings of Hope Gala, honoring Dr. Paul Chapman.

Our thoughts are with Danny, with prayers and high hopes for successful treatment. Our thoughts are with Charlie, too, as he prepares to step into some big shoes as the Magic tour rolls on. From what we saw on the Sessions tour, if anyone can do it, he can.

WOW

I'm not even sure what I am supposed to say. WOW. Tonight it was all there. Joy, despair, a social message, friendship, community. I felt like I was one with everyone on the stage (except Peter Wolf).
From the opening note you just felt it was so much more intense then last night. I don't know how you know that from the get go but when you feel it, you do.
This was a stunning show. REASON, DARKNESS, CANDY, SHE'S THE ONE. UN-fucking-REAL. Seriously.
This Hard Land - spot light on Danny, then Suzie then Roy. Beautiful.
Sandy - Danny shares center stage with Bruce. Don't know if I ever saw that before - Danny and Bruce leaning against each other playing their respective instruments. Bruce with a sizzling guitar, Danny with an awkward but signature accordion to give us another slice of the Jersey Shore. Everybody form a line .. we ARE the E Street Band and we want you all to shuffle along with us. Everybody form a line with us.

The performances of the last 5 songs of the regular set were performed with a gusto I have not seen before tonight.
We were on 10th Avenue, Kitty came back. It was a night for the ages.
Tonight we saw the jaw droppin', earth rockin', love makin', viagra takin', history makin', LEGENDARY E STREET BAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then they all came to the front of the stage to take their bows. Many nights I have seen Bruce walk over to Patti and bring her center stage with him. The hosts of the evening giving their thanks to their guests. Not tonight. Tonight Bruce walked to the end of the stage and stood with his arm draped around Danny. And then he brought Danny to center stage. And they stood there and hugged. Danny's eyes seen on the big screen rimmed with tears. And then Steve joined from the other side and draped his arm around Danny. More cheers, more tears, and then Patti came over and kissed Danny and hugged him for a long time. They all left together ... as old, old friends.
When they take the stage again in Madrid they will be a family missing one of its members. Lets hope and pray it is only temporary.

What a night, what a night, what a night. WOW.

Boston #1

All in all a very good show for the first night of a 2 night set. When you are at the 6th show on a tour and you hear 3 songs you haven't heard yet on tour, that's a good thing. Well I guess it was 4 I hadn't heard. Jackson, Tunnel, I'll Work for your love and Jungleland. Pay top dollar to hear Tunnel of Love on this tour. It was fantastic. And Clarence was perfect on Jungleland. Just a great performance of that song.
I'm expecting great things at tomorrow's show. Tonight's show was good but probably a little on the safe side. Tomorrow who knows.

Oh, a couple got engaged in the PIT tonight.

Things I heard on the way out of the show:
A lot of the songs sound the same. I guess that is why you need to pay attention to the poetry.

He USED TO play 3 hours and 45 minutes.

Sue said it was going to be 2 hours and 30 minutes but we got less than that. It was excellent though.

I bought the album and I hate it.

We just had a night cap in the hotel lobby bar and Kevin Buell was also there enjoying some time with his family. Would it have been wrong of me to deck the 6 year old girl and run away with her laminate pass???

Next up... last show of the US leg!

"...FOR I LOVE THAT DIRTY WATER..."

"...Ohh, Boston, You're My Home!"

Well, at least it is Monday night. Hit the ticketmaster drop this morning at 10:30 AM, and pulled a single for Monday night, right next to the stage. WOOHOO!!!!!!!

Danny

have been reading around and I'm getting pretty good confirmation that Danny is taking a leave from the tour. Boston will be his last shows. I had heard numerous reports before the tour started that he was not well and looked pretty frail. I never was able to completely confirm that myself from my seats around the various venues. Sad news indeed if this is the case. Only passing it on because I feel the confirmation I'm getting is accurate.

He will be replaced for the European shows by the guy from Seeger Sessions. Charles Giordano.

Bernie, (rather than "Boss"), Time??

From the NY Daily News article about last night's Safe At Home Foundation gala

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/2007/11/10/2007-11-10_joe_torre_still_in_new_york_state_of_min.html

Among the night's highlights was Williams joining Springsteen on stage for "Glory Days," in which the former Yankee center fielder brought down the house with two guitar solos. Springsteen, who also delighted the audience, played a song tribute to Torre and the Yankees and said he would include it on his next album.

I bowed out at $87,000

DAMN THAT MARSHA!

Robin Williams Gets $87G Christmas Gift: Bruce's Bike

Comedian and actor Robin Williams may be getting quite a surprise Christmas gift: an $87,500 motorcycle that once belonged to Bruce Springsteen. His wife, Marsha, bought it for him last night during an auction for Bob and Lee Woodruff’s Family Foundation.

You know ABC newsman Bob Woodruff — he is a walking, talking miracle after nearly dying last year on assignment in Iraq. He sustained physical damage as well as brain function problems. But if you’d seen him Wednesday night, you wouldn’t know anything had happened. That’s how much progress he’s made. It’s amazing.

Wednesday night, Bob and his beautiful, funny wife, Lee, hosted a bash at New York’s Town Hall Theater called "Stand Up for Heroes." They raised $2 million for the Bob Woodruff Family Fund at an all-star event organized in part by our pals at Freud Communications, Matthew Hiltzik and Lisa Dallos. The audience comprised vets, soldiers, Marines and really rich people.

The fund is designed to help raise awareness about vets and to get them aid and assistance. Who performed? Well, Springsteen, Williams, Conan O'Brien, Lewis Black and Brian Regan, as well as a Marine marching band featuring bag-pipers.

There was a Marine singer named Elizabeth Quinones who was so good singing the national anthem she should be let out to compete on "American Idol." She’d win, hands down.

Conan, by the way, milked the Writers Strike for jokes, insisting he had none, and that his parents had written the ones he told. "And my mother’s WGA [Writers Guild of America]. She’s in trouble," he quipped.

Springsteen not only played three songs on acoustic guitar and mouth harp, he also told some mildly dirty jokes (this was part of Caroline Hirsch and Andrew Fox’s New York Comedy Festival Week, after all). He then helped auction off one of his motorcycles for the charity. Even though ABC’s Chris Cuomo and famed attorney David Boies bid on it, the bike went to someone else: Marsha Williams, Robin’s wife. The price? $87,500. That’s some Christmas gift.

In front of a crowd that included ABC’s Elizabeth Vargas, Diane Sawyer, Robin Roberts and Diana Williams; NBC’s Brian Williams and Jeff Zucker; CBS’ Les Moonves; and actor James Gandolfini, Springsteen sang "This Hard Land," a brilliant version of "Devil’s Arcade," and "Thunder Road." The monied audience sang along to the latter; they knew every word.

Can I tell Bruce’s dirty joke here? A man goes to his doctor and says "I’m having a problem." He says, "I can’t stop exciting myself." The doctor says, "I wish you’d stop." "Why," asks the man? "Because I’m trying to examine you," says the doctor.

That was nothing: When Williams started in, parents packed up the few kids in the audience. It was a school night, after all. But whoa — a few more minutes of his crazy, brilliant genius and shrinks might have been needed in the morning. Williams proved he’s the funniest man alive once again, tearing down the house as he jumped through about 100 subjects in 20 minutes.

The Woodruffs are such an amazing couple that they reminded me of the late Dana and Chris Reeve in their devotion, charm and desire to make something for others out of their story. Brav-oh to both!

is next up on the hit parade. And Kim, as seen here with one StayCoolTonightEdE, will be in the house.
While she is a near daily lurker here it's going to take some coaxing to get her to share her thoughts.
Woods? Can you get your "petal" to contribute here?

Well, thoughts or not... have a good time, Kim!

2008 Twin Cities show date???

This 'nugget' was at the bottom of the Backstreets.com review of last night's show. Is this fresh news or has this date been out there for a long time and I just never noticed it? No other 2008 dates were listed on the Tour page...

From Backstreets.com:

"And as the lights came up and fans read what was on the screens, there was one more thing to be happy about: "Bruce returns March 16. Tickets on sale November 10 at 10 a.m." "
