Bruce is playing 5 songs on the Today show. 5 SONGS! Unprecedented from the Plaza me believes.

Additional thoughts...
'cuz I can't edit that thing below ONE more time.
Although I didn't see him I have read that Pat Reilly was in the crowd.
Bruce sang Livin' in the Future mostly walking back and forth across the front of the stage, so I guess he knows the words to that one :)
I heard several fans talking on line before the show about how they have "heard" that Roy is a real asshole! (HA, that one's for RR)
Back to the Livin in the Future thing, Bruce did a little preacher rap to intro the song and it was something like "there are some things that just speak for themselves where we live - like cheeseburgers at the WINDMILL, the Jersey Shore and Motorcycles. And now there's also things like wire tapping, torture, blah blah blah". And then he sings it skipping along the front of the stage. WTF? Seriously, SO confusing!
And last (at least for now) but not least I gotta say this sure ain't no HOOTENANNY!
YEE HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hot night in the city last night. Seriously, HOT! It was crazy. But I digress, on with the show.
The band took the stage late, around 8:40 (for a 7:30 ticket!). No hoopla taking the stage just lights out and Bruce took the stage followed by the band.
And speaking of the stage they set up the full arena sized stage in Convention Hall. It was huge and that only left about half of the floor available for GA. It was tight in there.
Radio Nowhere is a great opener as we all knew it would be.
The new stuff is very good for the amount of time they have rehearsed. The average fan is going to go for a beer when he plays MAGIC but I thought it was good. Patti shared vocals on that one and let's just say she needs more rehearsals or something!
The one that I was sort of disappointed in was "Girls". It seemed to plod along a tad but I'm sure that will improve over time.
Devil's Arcade is simply stunning. But again the average person is not going to wait around to watch the song build and get the full effect of it.
EDIT: Forgot to say this which I posted on another board this morning - Livin in the Future is an interesting one. Listening to it the last few weeks I have wondered how it would come off live. And the fact that Bruce points out the dark undertones to the song makes it a whole lot less of a party song, which is what is sounds/feels like at first pass. Not really sure what he's looking for from the crowd on this one.
Did I want to hear a Patti song? Hell no. Was it good. Have to say it was. The song itself is basically a conversation between a man and a woman and they played their respective parts well. Bruce's vocals on this song were great, Patti, yeah well. They both played Acoustics for this song.
Thundercrack kills me. When he brought this out at the Holiday shows a few years ago the place went ape shit. Last night, looking around, I'd say 90% of the crowd was lost. Had NO idea what the song was. Can't imagine it playing well to an arena of half wits!
The war horses are the war horses and they play very well. Both the band and the crowd are locked in on those songs. Say what you will about Born to Run but seeing it played in that small room last night just gives me a huge thrill.
Everyone in the band looks pretty good. The stage personas are not quite fleshed out yet but you know they will come over time. C is still looking to Bruce to decide if he should take center stage at certain points and Bruce also directed a violin/sax face off between C and Soozie for one song - can't recall which one. EDIT: I think it was Darlington County.
At the end of the regular set Patti and Soozie where hugging and spinning around the stage like school girls.
Steve is a train wreck! HA Seriously. It seems like he had no clue what he was doing up there last night and not a clue on the lyrics - not even BADLANDS! His head doesn't appear to be in the game just yet :)
Bruce's Mom and Aunt were at the show, sitting a few sections over from me. Funny to see Bruce's Mom do the old "Badlands fist pump" right on cue! I caught her a few times waving to Bruce from her seat. No idea if he could see her but it didn't really matter!
Just before BTR Jesse Malin came in the house. Anyone know if he was performing in the area last night?
Also saw Marsh hanging out at the back of the floor.
They are still working out the kinks for sure but the show has a great deal of potential for fun and balls to the wall rock n roll.
On to Hartford........

No, that is not a review of the band's performance tonight, it is my current internal temperature! Never been so hot in my life! I'm cooked.
Great, great, great seeing the E Street Band take the stage again.
The boys are back in town.....GET READY!
More tomorrow. For now I'm off to take an ice bath!

Third Rehearsal Show Announced!!! - This Friday At Continental
Tix go on sale today, Tuesday September 25, at noon. Like the Asbury Park shows, the tix are only being sold by phone through Ticketmaster, and again, there's a two ticket limit. It appears that they won't be selling seats for the entire arena, so the tickets will be scarce. J9 and I are going to give it another go. Good Luck!

Rehearsal Night 1
So, J9 and I just got back from Convention Hall. Wow. Well, maybe not "Wow," but damn, what a fun show tonight. Understand that this actually is a rehearsal, and songs are going to be changed around, rearranged, or maybe dropped altogether. Who knows? But the setlist we got tonight was a great mix of new, hits, deep album cuts and some hidden gems. He played for just over two hours, but I expect that to change when the tour begins. Here's what was played(hide your eyes now if you don't want to know!!!):
Radio Nowhere
No Surrender
Gypsy Biker
Empty Sky
Something In The Night
Girls In Their Summer Clothes
Night
The Promised Land
Livin' In The Future
Devil's Arcade
Candy's Room
She's The One
Lonesome Day
My Hometown
The Rising
Last To Die
Long Walk Home
Encore:
Thundercrack
Born To Run
Darlington County
The American Land
Awfully tired now, so I'm off to bed. I'll elaborate more tomorrow morning.

I'm going in to radio silence over the next 36 hours or so. A little ticket fairy has granted me access to the Tuesday show so I'm going to do my best to avoid the hoopla surrounding tonight's rehearsal. I don't know if I will actually be sucessful but I'm going to do my best to be "the Master of my Domain".
Will check back after my trip to the Promise Land.

Rehearsal Report for today from Stan at NJ.com
"A very interesting day at Convention Hall in Asbury Park today. A unique song was rehearsed, it was a good day for autographs and fans got to watch Bruce do a photo shoot with a classic car for Rolling Stone.
Songs rehearsed today were:
1. Thundercrack
2. Seaside Bar Song
3. Radio Nowhere
4. You'll Be Comin' Down
5. Lonesome Day
6. Gypsy Biker
7. Last to Die
8. Devil's Arcade
9. Livin' In the Future
10. Last to Die (again)
11. Long Walk Home
12. American Land
Yes, a Seeger Sessions song by the E Street Band! Max, Clarence, Steven, Soozie and Garry all stopped today to sign autographs. There weren't that many people around, 20 at the most. Steven was talking about the Emmys and how he and the cast of The Sopranos was so happy that David Chase won a wrting Emmy for the Sopranos, as he wrote the final episode. They had a beautiful 1960s Blue SS Chevy Camaro out by Convention Hall today and I had a feeling they would be doing a photo shoot. The car was pulled onto the boardwalk on the north side of Convention Hall about 3 p.m. and about 15 mintues Bruce came out to pose for pictures by the car and on the boardwalk. There was a large group of people around, maybe 60 or so, but they were very cooperative and stood back as Bruce posed for all types of photos around the car. The photographer was from Rolling Stone and I believe Bruce will be on the cover of a future Rolling Stone issue. They then took shots of Bruce on the boardwalk standing by the rail with the ocean behind him. They also took pictures of Bruce by the building just north of Convention Hall, the old pavillion that's now painted all white. The Camaro was then pulled up the ramp to the side of Convention Hall and Bruce posed for more pictures for the photographer on the hood of the car and in front of the car. I'm sure pictures of the photo shoot will be posted on the Internet shortly. There were a lot of fans around with cameras taking pictures. It was very interesting to see Bruce pose for the photos and how the photographers set the shots up. I had to leave before Bruce departed, so I don't know if he stopped for autographs or anything.

Sunday morning coming down....
Today is the kind of day that seemed fit to forego the treadmill and take to the streets of our town. So the mission man and I set off with our respective iPods for about an hour. I don't know what was playing on his iPod but I am sure you can guess what was playing on mine! I have not studied the lyrics at all but different things keep hitting my ear with every listen. Today it was this:
My father said "Son, we're lucky in this town,
It's a beautiful place to be born.
It just wraps its arms around you,
Nobody crowds you and nobody goes it alone"
Living in this town gets surreal some times.
By the way, what's up with the Church bells at the end of Your Own Worst Enemy - haven't paid enough attention to the lyrics on that one, apparently.

Can you believe this??????
The NERVE of some of these vocal fans! (from Pollstar)
Born To Leak
Updated 03:21 PDT Fri, Sep 14 2007
Bruce Springsteen's upcoming album, Magic, won't be released until October 2nd, but the entire song-set, plus a bonus track, appeared on the Internet on Friday, September 7th.
Usually, those responsible for leaking such a high-profile upcoming album on the Net almost a full month before its release would be tracked down, beaten, killed, buried and then dug up and beaten again.
But the album was still available on one particular Web site six days after the tracks first appeared on the Net, leading to speculation that the leak might have been intentional, and that the files either came from the label itself or someone in the Springsteen camp.
The reason for this thinking is that the album's release date is the first date of the tour. Since Springsteen's fans are a rather vocal bunch, it's hard to imagine them going to a concert by their hero without already knowing the words and melodies to all the new songs.
Whether the leak will impact sales is anyone's guess. If sales are less than expected, Sony BMG could claim the leak was responsible. But if CD sales go through the roof, Springsteen's people can take credit for a brilliant viral marketing maneuver.
Most online discussions about the download included messages from fans saying that even though they downloaded the album, they would still buy the CD.
"I'm gonna hold out & not download the full CD. Call me old-fashioned or whatever but I'd rather wait for the official release," wrote one fan on the rec.music.artists.springsteen newsgroup, adding, "However . . . I wouldn't mind treating myself to maybe another couple of tracks. Anyone know of a link where I could get any MP3 versions?"

New Jersey's finest
I have removed this article because it was taking up too darn much space. I have now placed it over in the link section, over there ------------------->
Carry on :)

Waiting by the Phone
Did you all see this over at Backstreets?
Hearing reports of hard-to-believe phone calls from ComcastTIX to shut-out fans, offering them fans another shot at Philly tickets.... that seemed like something to doublecheck. I spoke with Dave Homan, COO of New Era Tickets (which handles ticketing for Comcast), who confirmed that's exactly what they're doing.
"It's not a scam," Homan told Backstreets this afternoon. "We know that we have some people who tried but failed to get tickets, for whatever reason, either it sold out or they couldn't get through.
We have their names and addresses because they pre-registered. So, going through the ticket limits now -- all the people that went in eight times and got eight different sets of four, we're killing those tickets and trying to call the people back who didn't get tickets, to be proactive and give them a shot at buying them."
There's a heads-up as well: any customer who purchased a number of tickets over the stated limit of four for the Philadelphia shows will have their order knocked back to four; additional transactions after the first four tickets will be cancelled.
So that leaves a bunch of newly available tickets. "I know if I just threw them on the internet," Homan continues, "the scalpers would just pick them up the second I put them on there. So we're trying to take
care of the real fans."
We have no information on how fans themselves can be proactive in this instance; but if you pre-registered for the Philly sale and didn't score tickets, you might want to stay close to the phone.-September 13, 2007

Subject: GA floor
Addressing a few GA floor concerns:
I have read every one of the fans e-mails sent to me and have been
walking the floors prior to our shows for quite a few years. The
consensus of handling the GA with a numbered wrist band control of
some sort is the fairest. The base of the process we would like to
use everywhere would be to give out wrist bands from XX :AM until 5:00
PM. At 5:00 (these times to be decided by venue security and Jerry)
there would be a number chosen to be # 1. Then people from that number
to the pit capacity decided by venue security and Jerry would be would
be given a second wrist band for line up for pit access. They would
keep the first wrist band on. Then entering as directed by venue.
These wrist bands would be supplied by us. If there is need of a venue
wristband for number control assurance I see no problem with that and
it's one more souvenir for the fan. I realize this still leaves the
dilemma for fans who have to work and can't get there before 5:00 but
we have to have some standard and while not perfect for all this seems
the fairest. As Jerry reaches a plan for each venue ahead of time we
will then feed this infomation out though the logical sources
including venue sites so people can feel they know what's going on. In
particular it would be great if we could let people know ahead of time
where this will all happen so they don't spend their time walking
around the building looking for the correct place to obtain their
bands. The one thing I will reiterate here is we have no intention
anywhere of dealing with the sharpie self regulated modes of some fan
groups. I think this will successfully be our plan for the majority of
our venues and our goal is that whatever the plan we will have the
information out ahead of time for the fans.
Next: Fans who come early come hoping for the chance to get their GA
positions and also for many just as importantly to spend some time
with other "Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band friends". The
issue for many venues is what to do for these people who just want to
be with each other for the day. If there is a place near the venue
where these people could safely get together we would appreciate it.
We all understand that this may not be possible if for no other reason
that the liability factor the venue faces with gatherings of people in
general. The need for additional security and EMT personnel is a real
factor that everyone appreciates. We understand if the venue can't do
this until a certain hour due to staffing. If there is the ability to
do this we would like to let the fans know what time they could go
where. so,, that's where we're at at this time and I figure maybe some
will feel a little less concerned knowing we do have intent. Thanks,
GT

positions and also for many just as importantly to spend some time
with other "Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band friends". The
issue for many venues is what to do for these people who just want to
be with each other for the day.
Thanks,
GT
Vocals
RR is going to spit having this included here but I'm doing it anyway! Kim brought this video to my attention today pointing out that Bruce is SUPER sexy in it, but I digress. What I found interesting was that someone commented on Bruce's vocals and why he doesn't sing this way all the time. I must say I find his vocals on Magic to be the best I've heard in a long time. I'm sure there are technical terms for it and someone will point that out to me, but I just find his phrasing and styling much more natural this time around.
One person's take on MAGIC
Here's a post I cut and pasted from one of the Bruce message boards. I thought it was an interesting view and worth sharing. Can't say I'm in 100% agreement with all the content but but still an interesting view point:
Just some thoughts I've been mulling over relating to Bruce, his
music, and MAGIC's place in Bruce's career as a musician. I apologize
in advance for the disjointed (and perhaps rambling at times) nature
of the following.
Someone complained that Magic is disappointing because it doesn't
break any new ground. First comment: when has Bruce ever been a
groundbreaker? In a general sense, Bruce has never been in the
artistic vanguard on the music scene, has he? At least from amusical
perspective, Bruce has been more about synthesis, bringing together
the best aspects of what's come before rather than extending the form
in new directions, pushing the envelope. His strength has been in
borrowing and putting together what others have done before, and
creating something that is better than just the sum of its parts.
As for Bruce breaking new ground in HIS music, doing something that
may not be new for others, but is new for HIM in HIS music -- well,
yes, Bruce has done that quite a bit in the last 20 years, no? * Tunnel of Love brought new thematic material to rock'n'roll
and to his own music with its mature, adult look at marriage and love;
* HT & LT for the first time had Bruce playing with a different band
and a more soulful (on HT) and grittier (on LT) sound; * Joad brought in the acoustic guitar (used in different ways
than on Nebraska), the flasetto and more contemporary-documentary
political/social themes and lyrics; * the Rising, besides the new production, incorporated the
violin/fiddle, and the gospel choir background vocals (something first
introduced live on the HT/LT tour) into a fresher-sounding ESB);
* Devils & Dust had more melody and more instrumentation than
Joad, althrough the real groundbreaking aspect of that project was in
the live performance -- the new arrangements, the huge range of
instruments he kept rolling out to play, and a willingness (and
freedom) to delve into his back catalog in a depth never before
attempted (Song to Orphans! who'd have ever thought?...); * the Seeger Sessions represented a total departure from the
rock and singer-songwriter genre and brought a new synthesis of folk,
rock, big band and new orleans jazz, and a return to consistently
melodic material (and may be one of the few instances where Bruce
pushed the envelope, extended the form, more generally, be re-defining
what contemporary folk music could sound like; it's interesting how
the ONE project where Bruce truly was musically avant guarde is also
the one project that faced the most resistance and rejection among his
hard-core fans. Hmmm...)
[Note: a year and a half ago, when folks here were bemoaning Bruce
doing a dour folk album, I predicted that playing the same material
Seeger played could very well bring Bruce back to MELODY -- something
that is inherently a part of folk music and that Bruce had moved away
from. I think, listening to Magic, that I got that one right.]
Does MAGIC break new ground in Bruce's music?
I think the jury's still out on that. The "new ground" I see is in
the lyrics, with Bruce moving away from the story songs, the tight
cinematic narrative style he started with on Darkness and took to an
extreme beginning with Joad, and moving toward lyrics that are
frequently less direct and more poetic (you won't find hydrotic acid
in these lyrics). In some ways, it's a return, in less extreme form,
to the poetry found on the first 3 albums, but married to the pop/rock
musical sensiblities of The River and BitUSA.
What I'm trying to say is that this album represents a new attempt at
synthesis -- a synthesis in this case of Bruce's own musical career.
In listening to MAGIC, it strikes me as playing the same kind of role
that "All That You Can't Leave Behind" did for U2. U2 said that
ATYCLB was their return to their roots, going back to the stuff they
did best. So they put out an album that was MELODIC (after a couple
of fairly forgettable albums following Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby),
that incorporated aspects of their previous work to provide an album
that broke no new ground, but was a summary of their music from
before.
I think MAGIC does this too. Everyone (or just about) has noted how
familiar this music sounds, the 'classic' ESB sound, the similarity
with other songs in the canon, etc. It's true, you hear the
guitarwork from Roulette, Murder Inc and live Youngstown mixed with
the drumming from No Surrender, the vocals (esp the harmony vocals)
from The River album, the pop refrains from the BitUSA album, peppered
with flourishes like the violin from Lonesome Day, the piano intro
from Jungleland and decorated in subtle ways with bits and pieces from
the Wild & Innocent. And throughout, smatterings of sax solos
borrowed from the BitUSA album. In songs that both musically and
lyrically evoke a sense of, are a lot closer to Lost in the Flood than
they are to Reno. In this album Bruce has revisited his past, and
this album summarizes the journey from there to here, and has resulted
in a set of songs that are as sonically familiar and comforting (or
comfortable) as the lyrics and messages are perhaps uncomfortable for
some. This album is as dark as Darkness and Nebraska and Joad
lyrically, but its soundscape is as bright and joyful and hopeful and
danceable and sing-able as The River and BitUSA.
It's also probably the strongest song selection Bruce has assembled.
No Real Man, no Silver Palomino, no Working on the Highway, no
Cautious Man, no songs you just want to skip.
So nothing new, perhaps, except the particular sonic and lyrical
synthesis that it produces.
I think it's a masterpiece. I'd rank it among his best.

Final Vinyl?
Knowing that most of us have heard the new CD already that puts us ahead of those who are planning on buying the 2-LP vinyl version of Magic which comes out one week before the CD release.
With that said, what was the last official Bruce Springsteen release you bought on vinyl?
I think mine was Tunnel of Love.

Well done!

There's been a flurry of activity here already! Well done, people! I read today in the Wall Street Journal that the productivity of the work force in the US and Europe is expected to be WAY down in the next 12-18 months. Reason cited - BossTime!!!!!!

Way to go Crazy Janie and Janine! This will surely be a great way to keep the Magic going from show to show, stateside to worldwide and from leg to leg of the tour.
Personally it is hard to believe it has been 23 years to the day that I first experienced Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band live in concert at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. Boy how time flies.
Looking forward to Philly!

MSG GA's
I've read but have not confirmed that the only GA's sold for MSG was the section of floor across the front of the stage. The remainder of the floor is seated. So if you scored GA's for MSG you are in mighty fine shape!
How do we get this thing started?
October 2, 2007 - MAGIC
We're back on the road people! And this is where we are going to come together to talk about it! Call it the VIRTUAL 5J if you will!
Talk about the album, the ticket sales, who's going to what cities, what are you bringing to Tail Gate? It's all happening here!
Let's Roadhouse!
